Allstate is a particularly good company if you plan to bundle your home and auto insurance. Its low home rates offset its high auto costs, and you get a generous discount for combining your home and auto policies.

Allstate is the nation’s fourth-largest car insurance company, and it ranks second for home insurance.

  • Allstate has an excellent complaint rating for home insurance from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). This looks at confirmed complaints (complaints that lead to a finding of fault).
  • Allstate has slightly below-average customer satisfaction reviews for home and auto insurance, according to J.D. Power.

Allstate’s car insurance rates vary by state. Its average prices range from $1,602 a year in Maine for full coverage up to $5,150 a year in Florida.

Allstate’s variety of discounts can add up to sizable savings, including average savings of 25% for bundling your home and car insurance.

It also has a DriveWise program. It uses a smartphone app to monitor your driving for unsafe speeding or hard braking — avoiding these behaviors can get you a discount when you renew.

Allstate’s pay-per-mile Milewise program can save you money if you only drive a few thousand miles or less each year. Unfortunately, Milewise is only available in 17 states.

Allstate also offers discounts for:

  • Having a new car
  • Having anti-lock brakes
  • Having an anti-theft device
  • Setting up automatic payments
  • Going paperless with Allstate’s eSmart plan
  • Signing your policy at least seven days before it begins

Besides normal auto insurance coverages, like liability and collision, Allstate has other handy options, such as:

  • Deductible rewards: Reduces your deductible at no extra cost when you avoid accidents
  • New car replacement: Replaces a new car after a total loss, with no deduction for depreciation
  • Roadside assistance: This optional add-on costs $25 a year per vehicle

Allstate also has add-on coverage for rideshare drivers, called Ride for Hire. It bridges the gap between your personal auto coverage and the insurance your rideshare company provides.

Unfortunately, Allstate does not offer gap insurance or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) coverage.

Allstate charges an average of $2,560 a year for homeowners insurance. This rate is 9% less than the national average ($2,801 a year).

As with car insurance, rates will vary, so it’s worth comparing quotes from different companies to see what’s available.
